The European Space Agency’s Experience on the Coexistence between Passive and Active Applications

The European Space Agency operates and develops a large number of Earth observation satellites equipped with passive and/or active sensors. These sensors operate (or plan to operate) in a variety of frequency bands, some of them allocated exclusively to passive uses and others allocated to both active and passive applications. This talk will present ESA’s insights on the coexistence between active and passive applications which it has gained by operating satellite missions in different bands. The talk will also address ongoing changes that may affect the sharing scenarios in some frequency bands.
