A 28GHz Band Highly Efficient GaAs Rectenna MMIC with EM Coupling Structure for an External Highly Efficient Wire Antenna

To achieve high rectification efficiency, this paper demonstrates the 28 GHz band GaAs rectenna MMIC with the EM coupling structure for an external wire antenna. On the GaAs MMIC, the small loop antenna and the RF rectifier are integrated for elimination of the losses due to physical connections of bumps or bonding wires. Furthermore, the small loop antenna is connected to the external highly efficient wire antenna by employing the EM coupling structure. The measured rectification efficiency of the GaAs rectenna MMIC is 74% at an input power of 15 dBm, maintaining the high overall radiation efficiency of 92%. This is the top performance of 28 GHz band rectifiers in previous works.
