Adaptability and multi-functionality are strong general trends for electronic systems. In the case of radar systems, a critical element, which drives key performance trade-offs (e.g. detection range vs. range), is the transmitted radar waveform to cover a wide variety of applications and to provide a real-time adaptability. In this talk, a new architecture of a multi-mode mm-Wave radar transmitter will be presented to enable a single front-end to generate FMCW/CW, pulse, and PMCW radar signals with a wide signal bandwidth. Radar system consideration for radar waveform selection, IC implementation details, and on-wafer measurement results will be discussed.
