Subharmonic Switching 5G PAs for Efficiency Enhancement
With the trend of increasing data throughput, “5G and Beyond” wireless communications prefer high-spectral-efficiency modulations, which often lead to high PAPR and thereby lower the average PA power efficiency. Architecture innovations to enhance efficiency are critical for enabling these communication systems. This talk will discuss a new PA efficiency enhancement architecture, the subharmonic switching (SHS) PA that largely enhances PA efficiency from RF to mm-wave frequencies, enabling high efficiency wireless communications. Benchmarking designs based on the proposed architecture will be presented along with silicon prototypes and measurement results.
