Recent Beam Microwave Power Transfer Theory and Technology Toward Space Based Solar Power

The Space Based Solar Power (SBSP) is not only one hope for a future of CO2-free power stations in space but also one of the milestones toward space development, e.g. space colony, Moon base, etc. One of key technologies for the SBSP is a beam type microwave power transfer (MPT) with phased array antenna. Recently in Japan, there are some R&D projects of the beam type MPT. We can apply the beam type MPT not only for the SBSP but also indoor wireless charger for mobile phones and MPT to a flying drone, etc. In this talk, I introduce recent R&D of the beam type MPT toward the SBSP in Japan and its spin-off technologies as commercial products.
