Advancements in Magnetic Materials and Additive Manufacturing for Magnetic Microdevices
Magnetic microdevices, both active and passive, continue to play a pivotal role in RF electronics and sensing technologies. Several technical challenges unique to their construction severely restrict their incorporation at the chip scale. These challenges include poor material performance at high frequencies, film thickness limitations, and the ability to integrate magnetic microdevices as easily as other semiconductor devices. This presentation will cover recent advances made at Sandia National Laboratories in the development of novel magnetic materials and additive manufacturing techniques with regards to microinductors and low power magnetic tags to address these challenges to improve performance, scalability, and increased adoption.
