A 700–2800MHz Switchless Class-G Power Amplifier with Two-Quadrant Modulation for Back-Off Efficiency Improvement

In this paper, a novel Switchless class-G (SLCG) Power Amplifier (PA) is proposed to improve back-off efficiency by allowing transistors operate across the 1st and 3rd quadrants of the I-V curves. Based on the technique, a 700–2800MHz demonstration PA is developed using commercial GaN HEMTs, exhibiting 43dBm saturated power and 45–57.5% -6dB back-off efficiency. To the best of our knowledge, this is the state-of-the-art performance of multi-octave highly efficient PAs.
