Near-and-Far Field Solution for Energy Autonomous Communication

The paradigm of SWIPT is currently being investigated in a wide range of different systems for industrial applications combined with emerging technologies typical of the industrial internet of things (IIoT), namely wireless sensor networks (WSN) that enable unlimited and uninterrupted connectivity in generic industrial environments. The goal is the continuous monitoring of key equipments with smart sensors to track strategic parameters such as position, speed, temperature, acceleration etc, with no need for nodes maintenance. This system-level specification can be achieved by leveraging the same wireless link for communication and power transmission, to support sensor operations. Near- and far-field solutions together with a suitable combination of them, are introduced in this talk, and the analysis and design procedures are described and demonstrated by some some proof-of-concept proptotypes.
