Air Travel - Major Airports

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)

  • Located 5 miles from the convention center
  • 15-20 minute drive from the airport to the convention center
  • 25 minutes on the Metro using the Yellow line (no need to change lines)

Dulles International Airport (IAD)

  • Located 33 miles from the convention center
  • 1 hour drive from the airport to the convention center
  • NEW! The Metro is now connected to Dulles Airport
    • 1 hour 20 minutes on the Metro using the Silver line and then either the green or yellow line from L'Enfant Plaza to the convention center

Baltimore/Washington International (Thurgood Marshall) Airport (BWI)

  • Located 31 miles from the convention center
  • 1 hour drive from the airport to the convention center
  • There is a shuttle from BWI to the Amtrak/MARC station. This option takes about 1.5-2.0 hours, so most people rent a car

 

Train Travel

Amtrak - Washington Union Station

  • Located ~15 blocks from the convention center
  • Union Station is a few steps from the U.S. Capitol Building and the National Gallery of Art
  • You can walk, which takes 25-30 minutes or you can take the Metro Red line for 20 minutes
  • Travel time from NYC to Washington DC is 3 to 3.5 hours
  • Union Station features Amtrak WiFi, Metropolitan Lounge, and dozens of restaurants with plenty of seats

 

Transportation Around DC

Walk! Its one of the best ways to experience DC's rich history.

Metro

  • Washington, DC's Metro is one of the busiest public transportation systems in the country. Its expansive network of tunnels and above ground tracks connect all four quadrants of DC with suburban Virginia and Maryland. The system is heavily used by local commuters and it's a popular, convenient and affordable way for visitors to DC to get around the region, now so more than ever. Metro has opened its new Silver Line extension, which allows riders to connect to Dulles International Airport and explore Loudoun County.
  • Pay with a SmarTrip card or the SmarTrip app
  • Fares range from $1.85 (off peak) to $6 (peak) depending on the distance traveled
  • DC Metro trains run Monday - Thursday, 5 a.m. until 12 a.m.; Friday, 5 a.m. until 1 a.m.; Saturday: 7 a.m. until 1 a.m.; Sunday: 7 a.m. until 12 a.m.

 

Bike - Capital Bikeshare has over 350 stations around DC, Maryland and Virginia

Scooters and Mopeds

  • Scooters can be a fast way to travel short distances, especially when you are dressing in business attire for a IMS. Just be aware of were you park and travel. The convention center is located in the Central Business District. Here you can only ride the scooters on the roads and bike lanes.
